ex-JW Community Not An Activist Community?

mike's corner: ex-jw community not an activist community?.

Amen, and amen again Andi!
Trying to make us all 'activists' in one cookie-cutter unified mold just smacks of neocultism.
We each do what we can, as we can, as we want/need, in regards to how we relate to Watchtower-related issues. One person may feel a pressing urgency to become very active in disseminating information; another may feel an equally pressing need to reach out personally to others in similar circumstance; some of us just want to find friends.
I have found over the years that many of us retain the need to zealously exhort others to join us, join us, join us in whatever we find most urgent. That preachment thing is tough to beat; as Jdubs it was ingrained in us pretty deeply wasn't it?
Mike, perhaps internet discussion boards are not the best place to look for activists. Seeker made some very fine suggestions. I might add the thought that a public-service notice will be printed in most newspapers for free; you could reach like-minded people and form a group to achieve your aims that way, in your local vicinity.
It might help if you concentrate on doing what you think needs to be done, and quit wasting time chiding others for not sharing your personal goals.
As always,

They Stone You When You Try to Figure Out....
by SixofNine indoes this "ring a bell" with anyone?
pardon the pun.
i have a vague recollection of being a kid, and struggling to figure out how to reconcile the practice of execution by stoning with a loving god.

do you still want to live forever?
by sleepy inimagine that chance was offered to you .is it something you still desire?.
i wonder how desriable it would be to live forever.what problems it would bring.would we want to stay married to the same person, would we get to know everyone on earth?.
how would it effect our attitude toward life , would we get anything done knowing there was no rush?.

Sid said, "Living forever in the moment is not the same as living forever out of the moment, which is the way we now live"
Having walked near the border between life & death pretty recently, I find myself inclined to this way of thinking even more than before. This moment is all you really have. The past is just stored information and the future doesn't exist. All you have is this moment in time, and it too will pass.
Why worry about how many times the ticker will tick before it quits?
I'm grabbing folks and kissing 'em right now, trying to feel and do and be one precious moment at a time. Death doesn't scare me any more. I do feel regret that I am entirely unable to deflect whatever grief may passing my bring to those who love and rely on me. But that grief will be part of their lives, not mine. Meanwhile, there are babies to kiss, experiences to share, things to learn. That's quite enough for me.
'Forever'? That exists in the recurring cycles of the universe. One of those cycles includes death. Without death, life can't exist. Why should I want more than my share? Let some dimpled precious babydumpling come along someday, and its parents will say "Doesn't she have Auntie Lynn's funny bumpy head though?" and that will be my immortality.

Are you stable? (Mentally, that is)
by ashitaka inok.....any response will do, but if you're going to post a funny one, please also type your real thoughts along with it.. as for me, i'm pretty wild, but stable.
i never mention or show my fears; especially if my wife is around.
i can't bear to make her nervous.. ashi

Geez ashi! What a topic!
Am I stable? Depends on your criteria I guess. I've been quite mentally ill in my time but I was never legally non compos mentis. Are you stable if you're reacting to extreme stress under extreme conditions? Are you unstable if you don't realize your conditions are extremely stressful because it's the only way you've ever lived? Are you unstable when you have some paradigm shift after getting more information that causes you to re-evaluate everything you ever knew and felt and believed? Does 'stability' have anything to with how mentally ill you can become as a result of life's stresses?
While I was going through many of the changes, I worked, raised kids, served my community, had a social life. Then at one point the stresses piled up to the point where I could no longer function in many of those areas. I had to stop and work on learning to change the stressors and to deal with them more efficiently.
I didn't feel stable at that time. I still managed to cook, clean, tend my little son lovingly. Was that stable behavior?
Hmmm. I've shed a lot of words and little light haven't I? Sorry, I don't have 'an answer'. All I know is, stability is relative to your entire condition/experience/circumstance.
ANd am I stable now? Don't ask, don't tell!
Love and big hugs,

Who has UNconditional love?
by patio34 ini have seen the term 'unconditional love' used often in reference to jws.
now, i understand the import: they love someone only on the condition that someone remains a jw "in good standing.
however, the term 'unconditional love' is proferred in a positive light.

Love isn't an object that we pass around and share; it's an emotion, and a state of being.
'Unconditional love' doesn't mean irrevocable eternal love. It means there are no conditions set on the giving of love at the outset, thus: I will love you if you always do thus-and-so, or else it's off. Like the alleged Christian love we nattered about as JWs. We love you sis so long as you remain a good submissive sis.
Unconditional love is a gift we choose to share with those we love. If they make a mistake, our love should cover that mistake, or at least help them to feel better about it. If they need to take more than they can give, unconditional love helps us to keep giving without resentment, knowing that there is enough love to cover the need.
Of course even unconditional love can be killed, and it can die. Love of all sorts has to be nurtured in order to survive, just like love's meat vessels can shrivel and die without nurturance. But unconditional love means love freely offered without attachments or strings or codicils.
I'm probably the luckiest woman on the planet, as I am recipient of a wealth and glory of unconditional love from my darling husband and my three amazing sons. I've also received an outpouring of unconditional love from many of you good people in the last few weeks. I find it awe-inspiring. It has been a source of incredible joy and happiness to me to discover that there is such a bounty of unconditional love in the hearts of those around me.
And now I'm getting off the dang soapbox, it makes me dizzy standin up here!
Unconditional Christmas/Solstice love to all,
MD
